Cramer - ITTA Associate
Lew
Cramer is a consultant to MediaOne Information and a partner with an
international strategy-advising firm. Previously, Lew Cramer was responsible
for MediaOne International’s public policy, multilateral financial
institution coordination and political relations around the world. MediaOne is
one of the world’s largest broadband communications companies, with
interests also in major wireless communications businesses in Europe and Asia.
Proportionate revenues exceeded $7 billion in 1998. In May 1999, the company
entered into an agreement to merge with AT&T. Mr. Cramer held similar
responsibilities for US WEST in its numerous international ventures, before
that Regional Bell Operating Company spun off its broadband and international
investments into MediaOne in 1998.
Previously
Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service and Assistant
Secretary of Commerce, Mr. Cramer directed the U.S. Government’s commercial
staff of 1200 employees throughout the United States and in 127 embassies and
consulates overseas. This sub-Cabinet post is a presidential appointment,
requiring U.S. Senate Confirmation.
Mr.
Cramer also served as Executive Director of EXPORT NOW; Deputy Assistant
Secretary of Commerce for Science and Electronics; Director of Japan Office
and White House Fellow to Ambassadors William Brock and Clayton Yeutter at the
U.S. Trade Representative’s office. During his U.S. Government career, he worked
directly for five Cabinet officers. Previously he was a partner at the Los
Angeles law firm of Argue, Pearson, Harbison and Myers, specializing in
international, corporate, and tax matters. He has also taught as an adjunct
professor of business at the University of Southern California and Georgetown
University.
He
has written and lectured extensively domestically and abroad on international
trade, international communications and public policy issues. He serves on the
Board of Directors of the U.S. Telecommunications Training Institute and is a
member of the U.S. Department of State Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information.
Mr.
Cramer attended Stanford University and holds B.A. and J.D. degrees (with
honors) from Brigham Young University. He lives in McLean, Virginia with his
wife Barbara and their six children.
